In alignment with our dedication to skills development, we support and work within the framework established by the Manufacturing, Engineering and Related Services Sector Education and Training Authority (merSETA). As one of the 21 Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETAs) created under the Skills Development Act of 1998 (as amended), merSETA plays a pivotal role in the South African economy by promoting skills development across the manufacturing, engineering, and related services sectors.

The merSETA framework

The merSETA framework encompasses six industry sectors, representing approximately 40,000 companies, including 14,600 levy-paying organisations. This extensive network supports a workforce of about 600,000 individuals, with a total levy income of approximately R1.308 billion aimed at fostering the national skills development agenda.

While merSETA itself does not directly conduct training, it is instrumental in facilitating the training process. This is achieved by managing levies collected from the Department of Higher Education and Training, disbursing grants, accrediting training providers, and implementing strategic projects to bridge the skills gap.

At Mafika Engineering, our engagement with the merSETA initiative and our partnerships with Global OEMs underscore our commitment to not only adhering to the highest standards of industry-specific training but also to contributing meaningfully to the closing of the skills gap within our sector. Our focus on specialised training through our OEM partnerships ensures that our team is not just well-equipped but also at the forefront of technological and methodological advancements in the field of mining and industrial automotive engineering.
